Selection Process – No Written Test, Pure Merit
RRC Western Railway selects Act Apprentices entirely on merit — there is no written test and no viva voce at any stage. The selection works as follows:
Merit List Calculation: The merit list ranks candidates based on the average of percentage marks obtained in both Matriculation (10th) and the ITI examination, with equal weightage (50:50) given to both. Minimum 50% in Matriculation is mandatory just to be eligible.
Tie-Breaking Rule: If two or more candidates land the same average marks, the older candidate gets priority. If their dates of birth are also the same, the candidate who passed the Matriculation examination earlier gets preference.
This means your 10th and ITI marks directly decide your selection. Work out your average before applying to gauge your chances.
Stipend
Apprentices receive a monthly stipend as per the Apprentices Act and Railway Board norms for the duration of the apprenticeship period. Check the official notification for the exact stipend figures applicable to each trade and year of training.
