RRBs follow a multi-stage selection process for ALP recruitment. Based on the pattern of previous ALP recruitments (CEN 01/2018 and CEN 01/2024), the expected stages are:
- First Stage CBT (Computer Based Test) — Objective type, covering Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness.
- Second Stage CBT — Part A covers relevant technical subjects; Part B tests trade knowledge specific to the qualifying ITI/Diploma trade.
- Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) — Tests Spatial Scanning, Information Ordering, Selective Attention, Perceptual Speed, Accuracy and Memorisation.
- Document Verification (DV) — Original certificates checked for eligibility.
- Medical Examination — Candidates must clear the prescribed medical fitness standard for the ALP post. Vision standards are particularly stringent.
The complete selection process, exam pattern, and syllabus will be detailed in the Detailed CEN 01/2026.
Preparation Tips for RRB ALP CBT 2026
- Focus hard on Mathematics — Number Systems, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Statistics carry significant weight.
- Revise General Science basics — Physics, Chemistry, and Life Science at Class 10 level.
- Practice reasoning questions daily — coding-decoding, analogies, syllogisms, and series questions are scoring areas.
- Read NCERT books for Class 9 and 10 Science and Maths — they cover the syllabus thoroughly.
- Take timed mock tests to manage the exam pace. RRB CBTs are time-sensitive.
- Study your ITI trade or Diploma subject thoroughly for Part B of Second Stage CBT — this differentiates candidates in the merit list.
