What Does This Job Actually Involve?
MPPSC posts these Scientific Officers in the Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs) and related units under the Madhya Pradesh Police and Home administration. Their day-to-day work involves analysing physical evidence, biological samples, and chemical substances submitted from crime scenes. They prepare scientific reports that investigating agencies and courts rely on during trials.
This is a Gazetted Class II field-and-laboratory role. It carries legal responsibility because their forensic findings directly influence criminal investigations and court proceedings. Candidates must understand the nature of work before applying — this is not a general government desk post.
Eligibility Criteria:
The qualification requirement has two mandatory parts. Failing to meet either part makes the application invalid.
Part 1 — Post Graduate Degree (Mandatory)
Candidates must hold an M.Sc. in Second Division or above in the relevant subject:
For Physics post — M.Sc. in Physics
For Chemistry post — M.Sc. in Chemistry
For Biology post — M.Sc. in any one of: Botany (Vanaspati Vigyan), Zoology (Praani Vigyan), Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Forensic Biotechnology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Bioscience, Life Science, or Forensic Science
Part 2 — Graduate Degree (Mandatory — Both Sub-Conditions Must Be Met for Biology Post)
For the Biology post, the graduate degree must include both of the following:
(a) Any one of — Botany, Zoology, Bioscience, Life Science, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or Forensic Biology
AND
(b) Any one of — Chemistry or Biochemistry / Forensic Chemistry
All qualifications must be completed on or before 20 May 2026 — the last date of application. Qualifications still in progress at that date do not qualify.
Employment Exchange Registration
MP domicile candidates do not need live Employment Exchange registration at the time of application. They must produce it before the document submission deadline prior to the interview stage. Candidates serving in government or non-government jobs are exempt on production of a No Objection Certificate (government employees) or a Service Certificate (non-government employees). Candidates from states outside Madhya Pradesh are fully exempt from this requirement as per High Court order dated 08 March 2022 in WP No. 5096/2022.

Selection Process — Two Stages
Stage 1 — Written Examination (OMR-Based)
MPPSC conducts an objective-type written exam on OMR sheets on 22 November 2026. Negative marking (Rinnatmak Mulyankan) applies — each wrong answer carries a deduction. The exam runs at four centres: Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Gwalior.
MPPSC shortlists candidates for the interview at a ratio of up to 3 times the total notified vacancies, category-wise. Only candidates within this shortlisting bracket move to the interview stage. MPPSC will publish the complete exam plan and syllabus on mppsc.mp.gov.in — candidates must check the website regularly.
Special Rule — Below 500 Applicants: If total applicants for any specific post fall below 500, MPPSC skips the written examination and calls candidates directly for interview. Shortlisting ratios in that case: 1 vacancy = up to 12 candidates; 2–3 vacancies = up to 24; 4–6 = up to 36; 7–9 = up to 48; 10 or more = up to 5 times the vacancies or 50, whichever is higher.
Stage 2 — Interview (Viva Voce)
The interview carries 100 marks. Minimum qualifying marks: 41 out of 100 for Unreserved category; 31 out of 100 for Reserved categories and Divyangjan. Candidates absent from the interview lose all eligibility for final selection — no second chance is given under any circumstance.
The final merit list comes from combined scores of the written examination and the interview. Written exam marks alone do not decide selection.
Post-Exam Answer Key Process
MPPSC publishes a provisional answer key on its website after the examination. Candidates can raise objections within 5 days at ₹150/- per question plus ₹40/- portal charge. An expert committee reviews all objections and MPPSC then publishes the final answer key. No objections are entertained after the final answer key publication.
Exam Centres
The written examination takes place at four centres only:
- Bhopal
- Indore
- Jabalpur
- Gwalior
Candidates select their preferred exam centre at the time of application. MPPSC allocates centres based on applicant distribution. Centre change requests after form submission are not accepted.
Important Rules Every Applicant Must Know Before Applying
Reserved Category Benefits Only for MP Domicile Candidates: SC, ST, OBC, and EWS reservation benefits and age relaxation apply exclusively to Madhya Pradesh domicile candidates. Candidates from other states are treated as Unreserved (General) regardless of their caste certificate.
OBC Reservation Under Court Scrutiny: The final OBC selection result is subject to pending court cases SLP 8764/2023 and WP 5596/2024. MPPSC will declare the OBC result in two parts — Main Part (87%) and Provisional Part (13%) as per MP Government order dated 29 September 2022. OBC candidates must stay updated on these court proceedings.
EWS Certificate Must Be Current: EWS certificate must be valid for financial year 2026-27 and must be in hand on or before 20 May 2026.
Two-Children Norm: Candidates with more than two living children where one child was born on or after 26 January 2001 are not eligible for appointment under MP Civil Services Rules 1961.
Signature Must Be Consistent: MPPSC cancels candidature if the signature on the application form does not match signatures on documents submitted later at the interview stage. Use one consistent signature throughout.
Divyangjan Certificate Rules: PwD candidates must hold a certificate from the District Medical Board showing minimum 40% permanent disability. Certificates issued after 01 June 2021 must come from the UID portal at swavlambancard.gov.in — manually issued certificates after that date are invalid.
PwD Eligibility for Biology Post: As per the official notification, Divyangjan (PwD) candidates are NOT eligible to apply for the Scientific Officer Biology post. Candidates from the PwD category must check the specific notification for their discipline before applying.
Government Employees Must File Undertaking: Candidates working in government posts — temporary, daily wage, contractual, or under public undertakings — must submit an Undertaking declaring they have informed their Head of Department about this application.
No Documents at Application Stage: Do not upload any documents while filling the online form. MPPSC collects attested self-certified documents only at the stage before the interview, as per the checklist in Annexure/Parishisht-01 of the notification.
MPPSC Communicates Only Through Website: The Commission does not send individual communication by email, letter, or phone. All updates — result, admit card, interview schedule — appear only on mppsc.mp.gov.in.
